.. and today

In a Mini in 1976 is where it all began. During the postal strike, Mr Gray and his wife began their very sucessfull transport Partnership, delivering letters for AMF Legg to London, trading as Grays Transport. After four years of building the business, they had a purpose built 18’000 square feet warehouse built with a very large yard on the West Portway Industrial estate in Andover, where Grays Transport rapidly expanded, and went from strength to strength. At its peak there were over 75 vehicles operating out of the busy depot in Andover, servicing the transport needs for over 360 customers and almost all major local businesses and companies. It became the largest Southern Groupage depot for Irish transport, turning over more than 3 million pounds a year. “A very large sum in the eighties when times were difficult.”

Selling the company at its peak in 1989 to the Red Funnell Group, saw the company change the name of Grays Transport to Andover Transport Ltd. Mr Gray stayed with the Red Funnell Group for another year before parting with the company he had so successfully built. Four years later the Red Funnel Group sold out to a Scottish company, who eventually rebranded it into their own colours and name.

In 2008/09 during the start of another recession, Mr Gray discovered the Limited company name Andover Transport was available again. He wasted no time in seizing the opportunity and re-purchased the name in view of reforming it to its former successful position in the transport sector, which was sadly let to decline after selling up in 1989.

Transport is Mr Gray's forte, and with his vast knowledge of the industry and the help of new family members and some of his old loyal employees, the company was re-launched in 2009.

When the first truck and trailer emerged from the workshops with the new Andover Transport Ltd livery , the old smile was back, and there is no looking back!

“20 years later, the company returns to its rightful home in Andover, and to the Gray Family.”
